    The Role of the Public Area Attendant

    The role of the Public Area Attendant is to clean and maintain the standards throughout the public areas of the Resort.

    Key Functions

    • Removes trash, vacuums, dusts and cleans all offices
    • Sweeps, mops, and cleans lobby, front desk, and lobby restrooms and maintains throughout the day on a regular basis
    • Ensures all supplies are consistently available to guests
    • Ensures staff bathrooms are cleaned and properly supplied and maintained throughout the day

    Your Purpose

    Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all irrigation and drainage systems on the island and grounds. This role is based on MSC's island reserve, Ocean Cay. Staff accommodation provided.

    Your Impact

    • Watering lawns, palms and flower beds and other areas as needed or scheduled.
    • Monitors daily water usage and informs Maintenance Engineer of any needed adjustments to the irrigation water usage and computer settings.
    • Operates irrigation heads in dry areas needing additional water.
    • Designs, implements and maintains mechanical and electrical components of island irrigation system.

    • Controls expenses associated with irrigation equipment and activities.
    • Maintains inventory and ordering of parts needed for irrigation equipment.

    • Performs daily tank and pump water usage reports.
    • Helps apply or water-in pesticides and fertilizers under the supervision of the Pesticides Application Specialist through fumigation.
    • Operates dump trucks and other light equipment in hauling materials and removing debris.
    • May occasionally supervise crews for special projects.
    • Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Supervisor.

    Your Journey so far

    • Fluent English, verbal and written. Knowledge of any other core language is an advantage.
    • High School diploma and GED required.
    • Some experience working for a landscaping service or golf course grounds crew, specifically working with the irrigation system.
    • Proven ability to work within a harmonious and diverse culture team environment.
    • Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers and various types of pumps and pumping systems.
    • Knowledge of Rainbird system preferred.

    Objective

    Drivers within the transportation department are responsible for operating SGU buses to transport students, faculty, staff, and other authorized personnel, in a safe and controlled manner.

    Drivers play a pivotal role in enhancing the student success by providing a safe and reliable service along pre-determined routes to and from campus. The driver is expected to conduct himself in a professional manner which reflects the ethos of St. George’s University.

    Essential Functions

    • Communicate with passengers and employers regarding delays or any issues along a route.
    • Complete a daily vehicle inspection sheet prior to operating any SGU vehicle. The completed sheet is to be handed to the duty supervisor once completed. Should maintenance or cleaning be required, you are to inform your supervisor immediately and list any such issues on the daily inspection form
    • Adhere to the busing schedules
    • Wearing issued uniform in a presentable manner
    • Observance of all Government traffic laws and best practices which are enforced by the RGPF,
    • All accidents, penalties and fines, as a result of driving, on and off the job, must be reported immediately to the Transportation Manager.
    • Report all mechanical issues to management (manager or supervisor) as soon as is possible.
    • Prior to commencing duty, ensure route destination signs reflect designated route and is clearly visible, LED & Magnetic signs should both be used.
    • Follow all recommended health and safety practices ensuring the safety of the driver and all passengers
    • Maintain the assigned vehicle in a clean and tidy state
    • Any issues or concerns which involve students, faculty or staff should be reported to the transportation manager or supervisor at the earliest convenience. Confrontation with any of our passengers should be avoided.
    • Perform any other related duties as assigned by the transportation manager/supervisor or other appropriate administrator
    • Observe safety regulations and policies and perform other job-related tasks.
    • Promptly report all safety violation, including colleagues suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol on the job.
    • Must be student centric and possess the ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff in a positive manner

    Essential Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Should be willing to learn local areas of interest and to plan the safest route to and from those areas
    • Skillful at maneuvering of large or small vehicles along and around narrow and tight roads

You then drive to a site to collect a group of clients, where you will induct, instruct and transport them to a partner not-for-profit organisation in the community. Tasks for the day may involve graffiti removal, painting, litter collection, mowing and weeding. Your responsibility is to instruct the individuals to safely perform each task and monitor the work performed for the partner site before returning them to the drop off point and returning to your depot.

    We are looking for individuals with various backgrounds and experience. Some desirable skills include:

    • You'll need to be able to communicate and demonstrate a range of tasks and ensure a safe environment for work teams.
    • Have a strong understanding of Occupational Health and Safety practices and their practical application.
    • Quickly build rapport in order to understand the motivations of others, identify issues and suggest courses of action appropriate to their needs.
    • Have demonstrated ability to manage conflict and strong problem-solving skills.
    • Model appropriate behaviours and attitudes to assist individuals to develop new skills and work practices.

    Field Officers carry out a mixture of field work and office-based work, so it's important that you are able to demonstrate computer skills and written communication skills.

    Community Work operates seven days per week and this role will be required to work on weekends. Weekend availability is required.
